When it comes to makeup, we either hit or miss. We spend our time watching a countless number of YouTube videos created by our favorite gurus only to not quite get it right. We try over and over and over again but sometimes it just doesn’t work. However, with these five tips, you can master any makeup look you want. Now, keep in mind these are things I do when working on clients all the time and the products I suggest are most likely my favorites (Makeup Forever and Urban Decay). It’s not always about what product you use but HOW YOU USE IT!
Tip #1: Customize Your Formula! – Customizing your formula gives you a few benefits: you can perfectly match your skin color and make your foundation last longer. To make your foundation last longer, try using a mattifying foundation on your oily areas and a dewy (either something with a “radiant” or “satin” finish) foundation on the outside of your skin. If you have problems finding the perfect foundation match for your skin, purchase a foundation slightly lighter and darker than your skin tone. Next, blend them together, varying the ratio, until you finally match your skin. It may take a bit of practice but you’ll get the hang of it. If not, contact your local makeup artist! They should be able to point you in the right direction!
Tip #2: Use Highlighter Before You Apply Your Foundation. – This is one of my all time favorite to do when I’m going for a nice natural glow. By applying a nice cream highlighter onto the skin before your foundation, you too can create a glow like the pros.
Tip #3: Prep Your Skin – When it comes to applying makeup, the most important rule is to take care of your skin and prep it before applying anything! To prep your skin, apply a nice primer or moisturizer to the skin to help create a smooth complexion. If you need to make your look last through the night, apply primer. Also, if you prefer moisturizer, be sure not to over or under apply it.
Tip #4: Apply Concealer AFTER Foundation – Have you ever noticed that when you put your concealer on then your foundation that those spots are still showing?! That’s because when you apply your foundation you are moving your concealer around; so instead, apply a flesh toned concealer after the foundation and set it lightly with a neutral or translucent powder.
Tip #5: Setting Your Makeup: Choose Your Weapon of Choice – When it comes to setting makeup you will notice one of two things that makeup artists do: they set your makeup with either powder or spray. To keep that natural dewy look, be sure to use a spray that will help you maintain it. To dull those places that are too shiny, use a thin layer of powder. I personally use both. I like to set my T-Zone with powder then spray the rest of my face that way my makeup still looks natural.
